Shropshire RCC, through the Building Better Opportunities (BBO) project, is providing a programme to assist people in Central and South Shropshire to move into supported volunteering as a step towards employment.
Our project officers can meet you for a friendly one-to-one discussion, then help you to find a suitable volunteering opportunity in your local area.
The project officers will identify potential host organisations, helping them to understand the needs of the volunteer to achieve a positive and rewarding match for volunteer and host organisation. Examples of volunteer opportunities include helping in a pre-loved book shop, learning new skills in a community garden, helping with catering in community centres or being a trustee for a local charity. New opportunities are added on a regular basis.
Potential volunteers will be introduced to selected placements, and supported in taking the first steps into volunteering, with the officer available to offer a helping hand to resolve any issues that may arise. As the single point of contact for the volunteers, the project officers will offer support for the volunteer during the volunteer placement, to achieve a successful outcome for both volunteer and host. If the placement doesn't work out, Shropshire RCC will seek to find an alternative opportunity.
