Functional Fitness MOT Training
27th Jan, 2015
Shropshire RCC’s Wise & Well Team is holding a Functional Fitness MOT training day on Saturday, 21st February from 09.30 – 4.30 in Shrewsbury. The Functional Fitness MOT is a tool to assess and motivate older people to become or remain active.
A practitioner will go through a series of measured active “tasks” with an older person (e.g. a timed get up from your chair or 3 feet up & go) and their performance is compared to other people in their age group. The tool measures a variety of skills across mobility, balance and strength. Research has shown that most people think that they do enough exercise to keep healthy but, in fact, many do not. The comparison process acts as a motivator to encourage people to improve their performance, or stay above average for the already-active. The assessment process uses one-to-one time to allow the person to think about the benefits and barriers to activity. It also gives the opportunity to signpost them to local exercise opportunities such as classes, accompanied walks, friendly gyms etc. Please see further info here: http://www.bhfactive.org.uk/older-adults-training-and-events-item/370/index.html
We still have a few spaces for more attendees. The one-day training costs £35 per person, so if you know of anyone who works with older people and keeping active, please let them know about this opportunity.
